Education is a powerful tool to overcome poverty and build a brighter future. Yet, essential school resources like desks are often out of reach for many children in rural Africa. Without desks, many primary school students must sit on dirty floors and tree stumps or crowd around the few desks available. This negatively impacts their academic progress.

Every month, millions of adolescent girls around the world struggle to access the materials and facilities they need for menstrual health management. This lack of access often subjects girls to stigma, harassment, and social exclusion. Unfortunately, the impact is far-reaching. Women and girls without proper support during menstruation face restricted mobility, low school attendance, reduced participation in community life, heightened safety concerns, and increased stress and anxiety.

Every 11 seconds, a pregnant woman or newborn dies, according to UNICEF, underscoring a global crisis in maternal and neonatal health. Most of these deaths are preventable, and 94 percent occur in lower-income countries, like those located in sub-Saharan Africa, where babies are ten times more likely to die in their first few weeks compared to higher-income countries.

Anike Foundation recently helped Rwenzori Rural Health Services (RRHS) secure 125 Mama Kits to support their maternal health program.

People living with HIV/AIDS in rural Africa suffer from high social stigma, often limiting their educational opportunities and livelihood options.

In 2020, only 65% of children living in rural areas of Ghana completed primary school, and only 22% finished secondary school. When you factor in finances, the rate of completion is worse.
